Programme Aventure

Welcome to Nakkertok Adventure Program designed specifically for skiers between the ages of 11-18 keen to develop their skiing fitness and have a variety of fun outdoor experiences.  It is significantly more than the Learn to Ski -Level 4 or Wapoos Program. Participants will be exposed to new ski environments including backcountry touring, ski orienteering, telemark, and biathlon, as well as ongoing development of classic and skate techniques.  The program will also introduce skiers to backcountry safety, winter camping and leadership all with the aim of fostering a love of skiing and outdoor winter life. Athletes are encouraged to establish personal fitness goals and strive to achieve them through skiing and other activities that they may be involved in.

Training Times

Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons from Sept 12 to end March.  Occasional additional events outside these times.  See examples in schedule below.

Skill Requirements

Participants should have basic classic and skate skiing abilities equal to completion of the Nakkertok Level 3 Jackrabbit program.

Equipment Requirements

We recommend that all participants have both classic and skate skis.  Specific classic and skate poles are required – the boots can be combi boots.  Recommend Rock skis.

Program Specifics
  • Coaching is provided primarily by certified volunteer coaches.
  • Dryland training (hikes, games, orienteering)
  • On snow training (games, relays, long skis, etc.)
  • One or two additional on-snow technique sessions.
  • Cost (including HST where appropriate) includes both dryland and on-snow:
    • Adventure 1 (11 to 14 years old) is $230
    • Adventure 2 (15 to 18 years old) is $259.90
  • Additional program activities (ski events, special social events, etc.) from 2 to 7– costs average $15 to $30 per event, except the CSM, which runs ~$140.

Program Contribution

Parents are expected to contribute significantly to the season’s activities in addition to the basic club co-op commitment for a total 4 days per adult contribution or 8 days per family.  These contributions can include:

  • Coaching– works towards community coach certification (the minimum level) and other higher
  • Registration– fees and names for communications purposes
  • Communications support – updating the website
  • Photographers and videographers
  • Safety –taking care of those who might be cold, etc…
  • Special events organization –we need parents to help pull events together (knock-in sprints, treasure hunts, etc…)
  • Club event support – we need event staff.

All are expected to participate in trail clearing and facility clean-up and learning about the cooperative nature of Nakkertok.
