Coach development is a critical focus for clubs across Canada. Canada needs a continual supply of coaching talent to meet the increasing expectations of our athletes and to fulfill the increasing demand for coaching resources across the country.
Nakkertok takes coach development seriously. Our programs do not succeed unless we have qualified and skilled coaches and instructors at all levels.
- Our Learn to Ski programs need around 50 volunteer instructors each year in order for them to deliver a quality experience to the kids and keep them coming back
- Our racing program employs staff coaches to ensure consistency in program development and delivery…however we could not function without our volunteer coaches many of whom have qualifications that exceed those of our paid staff
We are committed to creating worthwhile coaching career opportunities for new coaches. We are investing in creating an environment for them to acquire and develop their coaching skills while being guided by experienced coaches who can bring a variety of perspectives to the table.
We encourage our youth to get involved. Participating and volunteering with our learn to ski program is an excellent way to learn if you have what it takes to be a coach. If you are an older and more experienced athlete (over 18) perhaps you could volunteer with our racing programs. If you are 16 or older we highly encourage you to start taking coaching courses and develop your theoretical knowledge along with your own experience. Nakkertok will reimburse you for all coaching courses. Once you have completed the first course – you could be paid for your coaching contribution.
The course are not only for our youth. We need and must have certified coaches at a variety of levels in order to be able to maintain our status with CCO and SFQ. Please sign-up and take the courses when they are available. You will learn how to plan the classes, tricks of the trade for how to use games in a way that teaches skiing without it being boring and you will most likely improve your own technique by the end of the course.
Please contact the LTS director Noel Harrington or the Racing Director Jennifer Tomlinson for more details.
Current coaching courses can be found under Other Programs/Coaching Courses.
