Coaches’ Development

Coaches’ Development

Our programs need around 100 volunteer coaches each year in order for us to deliver a quality experience to the kids and keep them coming back.

Workshops

Attend the pre-season coach meeting and workshop  in mid-December to get tips from seasoned coaches across Nakkertok. The meeting includes specific training for our three main coaching groups:

  • Bunnyrabbit (with training plan/toolkit)
  • Jackrabbit Level 1 and Level 2 (with training plan/toolkit)
  • Jackrabbit Level 3 and Level 4 (with training plan/toolkit)

Attend reimbursable coaching workshops for your own development and to pass on what you learn to your athletes! Parents can start coaching as early as the Bunnyrabbit program with support from the Introduction to Community Coaching workshop, and then latter in the Jackrabbit program with support from the Community Coaching workshop.

Please sign-up and take the coaching workshops and other training opportunities when they are available. You will learn how to plan the classes, tricks of the trade for how to use games in a way that teaches skiing in a fun and active environment, and you will most likely improve your own technique by the end of the onsnow workshop!

Online

The Coaching Association of Canada provides a great tutorial to build a lesson (or practice) plan, and offers a free Concussion e-Learning Series that is worth completing. We have also been sourcing the knowledge and experience from our coaches to produce content with detailed technique checklists, videos, and progressions for dryland skills and onsnow skills.

Youth Coaches

We also encourage our youth members to get involved! If you are 14 years or older you can take coaching workshops and assist with lessons to get highschool volunteer hours. If you are 16 to 20 you can take coaching workshops and be paid an honorarium to lead a team. Nakkertok will reimburse you for all coaching workshops.

Please contact the LTS Director to know more.
