Powering our future!
It’s time to make snowmaking greener at Nakkertok by upgrading our connection to Hydro Quebec’s electrical grid. Currently, our snowmaking operation relies on an aging diesel generator and we need to plan for what comes next.
About the project
Snowmaking has been crucial to extending our ski season at both ends, allowing us to host events early in the season, weathering dips in the snowfall mid-season, and to offer programs on snow for up to five months each year.
We are proud to be a regional leader in offering a facility that can support skiing for so many youth, families, and skiing enthusiasts. By transitioning from the current diesel generator to a 600V 3-phase hydroelectric supply, we can enhance our snowmaking capabilities and also lay the groundwork for future improvements. This upgrade will support future initiatives such as better lighting for night skiing, electric vehicle charging stations, and even the modernization of our chalet and washroom facilities. A more reliable, clean electrical system will set Nakkertok on the path to a sustainable future for our community.
To make this happen, we need funding for a detailed service layout, new transformers, and upgraded power lines along our driveway. Additionally, local distribution infrastructure on-site will need to be improved. The total cost of the project is estimated to exceed $300,000, with $150,000 to be raised through our 2025 fundraising campaign. The remaining funds will be sought through provincial grants and additional investments.
