Trail safety

Collisions, cold and critters can ruin your ski or worse. Here’s how to ski safely.

  • Nakkertok’s ski and snowshoe trails are not regularly patrolled. Ski or snowshoe with others, and ensure someone knows where you are and when you expect to return.
  • Carry a mobile phone with you, but note that coverage is limited in areas.
  • Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
  • Observe trail conditions and adjust activities and selection of trails accordingly.
  • People ahead of you have the right-of-way. It is your responsibility to avoid them. Let them know if and how you want to pass.
  • Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.
  • Be aware of any open water or thin ice. Just above and below beaver dams, and where water is flowing are high risk areas. You can break through ice even on the coldest winter day.
  • Be aware of any low hanging or fallen branches or trees.
  • Keep away from snowmaking equipment, including hydrants, the pump house, the pumps, and the generator
  • Leave wildlife alone
  • Obey all signs, ski in indicated direction, and keep off of closed trails.
  • Report any incidents
