Why are there so many low branches after the first heavy snowfall or freezing rain?

Why are there so many low branches after the first heavy snowfall or freezing rain?

Each fall there is an incredible amounts of work done on the trails. However,  when we have an early heavy snowfall or freezing rain, we get branches hanging dangerously low. Not only are these branches dangerous for skiers’ eyes, particularly at night, but they catch and break the groomer’s lights and mirrors.  Please feel free to use one of the folding saws hanging on the pegboard above the work bench or a pole saw from the back wall (in the Ski Barn) to cut this stuff down on your ski.
