ProgramDejan Custic2017-04-12T09:16:35-04:00

Males and Females aged 18 and over

Must be 18 by end Dec 31 2016

The NJDT program has been developed to serve the needs of athletes that are 18 years of age and older.  We welcome athletes with the following goals:

  • those who are more oriented to University racing yet want to train at a high level to compete at the Ontario University Championships, Ontario/Quebec Cups and Nationals,

AND

  • those athletes who have chosen to focus primarily on skiing and wish to pursue competition opportunities at the highest level in North America and who will travel to competitions in the Haywood NorAm circuit, US Super Tours and at other designated FIS races. In general these races will include a Canadian NorAm race in BC/Alberta and potentially FIS races occurring in the eastern US. The expectation is that they are committed to skiing on a full time basis and either working or going to school on a part-time basis in order to be able to attend weekday practices.  Significant travel and time away, sometimes on short notice will be part of the program.

Skill Requirements

Junior Development Team (T2C) – committed to skiing and be able to compete at the Haywood NorAm level. Prior acceptance to the program is required.

Equipment Requirements Skate and classic roller skis,  Skate and classic skis, poles, and boots!  Rock skis. Access to weight room and separate race and training skis.  Road bike, Heart rate monitor. Racing licences for all athletes.
Travel Participation in training camps, local, provincial, and national level races will be extensive.  Travel and accommodation costs are estimated to be $5,000 to $7,000.  For all participants in the NJDT program, the Nakkertok travel policy is modified, and for those 18+,  the code of conduct policy is also modified.
Program Contribution

Parents:

Non-coaching parents (primarily affects those who live in Ottawa) will be expected to contribute significantly to training camps organization, race travel, registration, administration, communications, wax team, equipment management, race organization support and other opportunities as identified.   Each family is expected to contribute 4 more days above the basic member contribution for a total of 8 days per family.

Racers:

  • Must participate in club volunteer opportunities – trail work especially
  • continue to participate in trail clearing and facility cleanup days, Nakkertok Open House, club and team fundraising activities, trip reports
  • act as responsible representatives of the club – on and off trails
  • are encouraged to begin their coach training and development so that they can begin to provide support and act as role models for the younger programs
  • Assist with T2T and L2C skiers at combined practices
