As you likely know, the Province of Quebec has placed Gatineau and much of the Outaouais region in a COVID alert Red Zone until January 11, 2021 and organized sporting and recreational events are prohibited. As both Nakkertok North and South are located in the Red Zone, the first two Learn-to-Ski weekends will be postponed. Our Learn-to-Ski (LTS) season was to begin the weekend of January 2-3. The start weekend must now be delayed, and lessons will not start until January 16-17 at the earliest. We do not know at this time if the Province of Quebec will extend the Red Zone period beyond January 11.
While the organized LTS programs cannot take place during this period, Nakkertok’s trails will be maintained and open for general skiing. The LTS community may wish to benefit from our posted Lesson Plans (https://nakkertok.ca/coaches-lesson-plans/) and implement their very own grassroots lessons. As it stands now, we are hoping to extend our LTS program into March. Those first two cancelled classes in January will hopefully be delivered the first two weekends in March.
In an effort to reduce the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus, LTS coaches will not be able to make physical contact with participants this season. Since our Bunnyrabbit participants (typically age 5 and under) often need a helping hand, this program has been redesignated “parent-assisted”. It will be mandatory for a parent or designated person to accompany their Bunnyrabbit skier(s) for the duration of the lesson.
The Club’s administration recognizes the uncertainty the year ahead brings, and we’d like to remind the LTS community that you can seek a refund of the LTS fees up until Sunday, January 17 (inclusive). Refunds can be requested by contacting info@nakkertok.ca. Alternatively, as a non-profit organization, Nakkertok would greatly benefit from all paid fees regardless of the outcome of the season ahead. Please note, in the event that our LTS season is entirely cancelled, fees paid this year will not be applied as a future credit.
We very much appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this uncertain time. The LTS team will continue to strive to keep you informed as information becomes available. To that end, please mark your calendars for the evening of Thursday, January 14 at which point the LTS team will update you all once more via Zoom on what lies ahead for our treasured LTS program.
